Sri Lanka is one of the few places which offers almost everything. It has a very rich culture with eight Unesco world heritage sites (my favorite is the golden cave temple of Dambulla and Sigiriya citadel rock plateau, formed from magma of an extinct volcano) and a natural beauty as well as wildlife. I will always remember the spectacular train ride with mainly locals from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya, which is in the heart of the verdant tea plantations in the highlands. It is worth to spend a few days in the highlands as the climate is very enjoyable and refreshing and perfect for some nice walks.
The Maldives with over 1200 islands impressed me with the most beautiful white-powder sand beaches in the world and crystal clear water. The richness and variety of the marine life is just astonishing; dazzling coral reefs and thousands of brightly coloured tropical fishes in bathtub-warm water.
